EVD External Drainage Systems

External drainage systems are used to drain and monitor Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) from the lateral ventricles of the brain or the lumbar subarachnoid space.

In this way, intracranial pressure (ICP) can be monitored and reduced, and temporary CSF drainage can be provided for patients with infected hydrocephalic shunts.

Monitoring of Intracranial Pressure (ICP) is usually performed in selected patients with:

• Severe head trauma • Subarachnoid hemorrhage • Reyes' syndrome or similar encephalopathies • Hydrocephalus • Intracranial hemorrhage • Pre- and postoperative status assessment for space-occupying lesions.
