Integra® Helitene® Collagen Hemostatic Agent

HELITENE® Absorbable Collagen Hemostatic Agent is a soft, white, pliable, absorbent hemostatic agent.

Helitene is collagen derived from the bovine deep flexor (Achilles) tendon.

Helitene is used for hemostasis in surgical procedures (other than ophthalmologic and urologic surgery), when bleeding cannot be controlled by ligature or conventional procedures.

When it comes into contact with blood, collagen causes platelets to build up. Platelets accumulate in large numbers in the collagen structure. The structure of Hlitene provides a three-dimensional matrix to strengthen the clot.

When applied directly to the bleeding site, Helitene effectively controls bleeding, usually within two to five minutes.

Helitene Absorbable Collagen Hemostatic Agent is designed to be fully absorbable if left in place after hemostasis. If desired, Helitene can be recovered after hemostasis has been achieved using dry forceps or irrigation.

Absorbable Collagen Hemostatic Agent has been evaluated in vitro for enhancing bacterial growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. There was no increase in bacterial growth for either organism.
